My grandparents, Harold and Bernice. Married June 12th, 1942
Today is their 70th wedding anniversary!
She was a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse, he was a farm boy. He went off to the war, and she waited everyday for him to come home. They built a life together, raised two teachers and two doctors. 70 years later, they’re still magically in love and never leave each other’s side.
One day, my grandpa was brought to the hospital, and I still remember seeing him lying in bed, as my aunt pushed my grandma’s wheelchair up to him. She reached out and took his hand and said in her shaky little voice, “Now you get better so you can hurry on home to me.” The way that they looked at each other was the cutest thing I had ever seen.
Never give up on your fairytale, true love really can last forever
